Christmas song

Soft lays the snow
With a whispering chill
Sparkling lights
In the windows will fill
Stop, look, listen
Don't let the magic pass
It will soon be gone,
Like the sands in the glass ~
Be the excited child within

The roads are busy
Shops filled to the brim.
Take time, pause and breathe,
Hear the sound of the hymn
Stop, look, listen.
Don't let the magic pass
It will soon be gone,
Like the sands in the glass
Be the excited child within

Relish the memory,
Feel the glow,
Of childhood Christmases
Long, long ago
Stop, look, listen.
Don't let the magic pass
It will soon be gone,
Like the sands in the glass
Be the excited child within

New job

Off I go again
New job
Nerves a rattling
Need to do well
Unknown territory
Familiar situation
Fingers crossed

Am I lonely?

Am I lonely?

Am I lonely?
Let me ponder that thought.
I am alone a lot of the time.
I have good friends at the end of a text
And my son lives at the end of my path.
But 90% of the minute full day
I spend with me, myself and I.
Sometimes I crave a companion of sorts –
I did try a cat for a while.
But I surprisingly found that I am selfishly tight;
That I devour time to be on my own.
So when the question arises
As it quite often does
I can honestly say that I’m not.
I am rich in my company
As I have no buts to share
I can come and go as I please.
So no pitying looks please
And offers of seats
As I’m happy as happy can be.

New Year

Sing a song
Dance like no one is watching
Feel the music within
Walk whatever the weather
Take a memory
Smile
Laugh if you can
Talk to someone new
Write down thoughts
Look to the sky
Remember with love
Say Thanks for another day
Donate time or money
Eat colourful food
Drink water

To all my cyber Facebook pals,
Who've eluded my Christmas card list,
May I wish you all the season's blessings,
Before you all get pissed!

It's been a crazy, heck of a year,
With good times, naff times and some quite glum
It might well be bumpier around the corner,
With the weird and wonderful yet to come.

But my wish for you and yours to love,
Is a safe passage through the unknown,
Peace, health and patience, understanding and strength
With a wealth of treasured moments of your own

A verse a day for September

My aim is to write
Every day for a month
And see what evolves in that time
I enjoy using words
Arranged in blank verse
Which haphazardly might choose to rhyme
So as September looms
So my mind will begin
To juggle some syllables around
And when October approaches
I’ll review and digest
And hope I’ve not let myself down!

Mum

We miss your flapjacks – ours never taste the same,
We miss your tear-filled giggles,
When something amused you – usually slightly risqué!
I berate myself every weekend
For leaving it too late to call you,
Then remember I can’t

We miss your kindness for everyone you met
We miss your chats to dogs and cats we met on walks
I still say ‘Good Morning Mr Magpie – how’s your wife and family’
   Just as you would do
   We miss your elaborate lowdowns
Of TV quizzes that we might have missed

We miss the help and support you always gave us
      When times were tough
I miss the way I could never leave from a visit
Without ‘petrol money’ in my pocket
We miss the fact that we will never again receive
          A personalised, hand-made birthday card

But most of all, from the bottom of our hearts
          We miss YOU ♥♥♥
      Happy Birthday Mum/Nanna
